Guys, Some time ago, as in 'way back when Moses was a boy', I acquired a Bernard TIG cooler along with a welder I bought. I have only now found a need for it. It is a model 3500SS cooler. I believe it's rated for up to 500 amps. A few days ago, I started cleaning it up, and finished the project only today. I blew copious, billowing clouds of black dust out of the radiator fins, then scrubbed the outside with Simple Green, then rinsed with clear water.

I then opened the tank. It had a couple of cups of dried nasty black dusty powder inside the tank. I got the tank squeaky clean then closed it up. After washing, scrubbing, and blowing everything dry with compressed air, I filled the tank with 3 gallons of distilled water. However, upon attempting a test run with none of the lines hooked up to the welder, I was unable to get the pump to deliver any flow. I have found a Bernard manual of sorts on the internet, but it's only about 3 pages long and is short on details.

The unit has a TEEL brand rotary vane pump. The pump's intake (suction) hose sticks down through a hole through the top of the tank down into the water reservoir. It's a straight up lift of not more than 6 inches into the pump.

However, it will not deliver any flow. I'm hoping there's some kind of priming sequence that I've overlooked. Because otherwise, I'm thinking perhaps the pump is dead. However, it seems odd that a pump would not deliver so much as a dribble. Hospice Elements And Device Models Manual Woodworkers. The unit certainly sounds smooth enough. There are no odd noises coming from the motor or the pump.

There are two big 'acorn nuts' on the pump. One of these absolutely looks like an 'acorn'. Thinking that was the one with the inline filter inside, I removed it. However, it was the wrong one. The nut that didn't look so much like an 'acorn' turned out to be the access to the filter screen.

This was not terribly dirty but I got it squeaky clean and reinstalled it. I'm not sure what to do next but am looking forward to receiving lots of bright ideas.

If the pump is toast I have a couple of other coolers I can try next. However, I like this one the best. Thanks, Vernon. I've got a Bernard 3500SS just like that,Well not exactly like that[mine works].

You'll probably have to pull the pump apart and change the rubber impeller.I think Grainger sells TEEL pumps dave [acme thread] Probably best to get a rebuild kit, and change the shaft packing also.Oooohhh. You sure know how to hurt a guy.;o).

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like there may be a few floating around on ebay, too. Adobe Photoshop Cs 6 Offline Activation Keygenguru here. I guess if I wanted instant gratification I should have gone out and bought a gallon of ice cream. Those pumps are not overly complicated inside, the only problems I've had, is the strainer[you already found that] gets clogged once in a while. But I run automotive anti-freeze in mine. [gets a little colder here in Ohio than Texas.

Seems like I get a waxy build-up on the screen from the glycerine in it. I usually just spray it clean, with a can of ether starting fluid. Dave [acme thread] Those impellers are sort of directional, because of pump rotation, So watch how it looks when you take it apart. Well, as things turned out, I was unable to get the pump to self-prime. Ultimately, I called grainger's tech support. Once I finally found the pump's model number, they confirmed that no repair parts are available, nor is the pump still made -- at least not by Teel. The rep gave me two current models of Procon pumps that will interchange.

The more expensive one is about $150. Meanwhile, I dragged out another cooler unit, cleaned it up, and got it going. I'm still partial to the simpler, bigger Bernard design though. So, I reckon I will splurge for another pump soon.
