I collect lanterns so when I saw a box that said 'brightest lantern you'll ever own', I had to give it a try. The brightness is very modest compared to propane and liquid fuel lanterns (which normally run from 790-1540 lumens), but actually pretty good compared to other LED lanterns (which only normally go up to around 1000 lumens and most are in the sub 500 lumen range), and on par for the price. The battery life is supposed to be around 12 hours, which is also really good for three AA batteries, but I haven't tested that yet. I've run it for several hours and it's done well so far. As far as the durability, I sat it down kind of hard on accident and it turned off and wouldn't turn back on until I smacked the bottom of the unit. I wouldn't trust the statement they make on their website that it can take a 50ft fall.
Kolbert Realtor. I think that the internal switch that turns the lantern on when the top is raised is probably the weak spot on this lantern. Other than that, it seems very fair for the price. The sales pitch they use is somewhat deceptive by saying that they use the same 'technology' as the military and special forces.
The same could be said about the refrigerator in my house using the same technology as military refrigerators, lol. Very vague and general terms like 'military grade' and 'combat ready' are used on their site, but they never actually claim any military unit uses these lanterns. Pic related, it's the Atomic Beam next to a real military lantern.
